Papal Influence For Peace

(Received 2.30 p.fn.) VATICAN CITY, Juno 2. The Pope told the College of Cardinals that he had received assurances of goodwill and a resolve to maintain peace from Europe’s principal statesmen, as a result of his recent overtures.

He added that he possessed “other information,” giving greater hope that statesmen would be guided by humanity in approaching international problems. His decision to intercede was made at the beginning of May, when dissension appeared likely to lead to war. He is convinced that, as a result of the survey, there has been a relaxation in the tension in men's souls.
