Prospects For Northland Dairy Sales
The dairy sales have now commenced in Northland, and before long will be in full swing.
Clearing sales of dairy herds so far held have met with a- ready market, and vendors have been well satisfied with the values obtained.
Yearling Jersey heifers are in demand, and prices in this section are hardening, the well-grown, goodquality cattle realising good prices. Store Cattle Quiet. The store cattle market is still quiet, very few sales being made. Store pig values are firm on late rates, and have been penned in larger numbers at'recent auctions. Breeding sows are being keenly sought, and any penned at recent yard sales have met with keen competition, values hardening. Range of Prices. Quotations—Cattle: Good quality Jersey cows, spring calvers, £8 to £9 12/G; late and backward cows, £5 10/- to £7; two-year Jersey heifers, spring calvers, £5 5/- to £6 10/-; yearling Jersey heifers, £1 16/- to £2 2/6. Pigs.—Large stores and buttermilk pigs, £1 3/- to £1 10/-; smaller stores and larger slips, 18/- to 21/-; good slips. 14/- to 17/6; best weaners, 9/- to 11/-; average weaners, 7/- to 8/9; small weaners, 4/- to 6/6; breeding sows, £3/10 - to £6.
