School Milk To be Rationed
Due to the unfavourable dairying season in Northland, the daily supply of milk has been discontinued to 12 schools.
This fact was reported to the Whangarei Milk in Schools committee last night. After full discussion, it was decided to re-commence the daily supply to all schools —with the exception of Ctaika 'and Maungakaramoa, where delivery at present is only possible on three days weekly—from Wednesday next, June 7. To meet the present shortage, however, each school will have its number of bottles reduced by one-third.
It is expected the shortage will last for about six weeks.
At the present time, 25 schools receive daily rations of milk under the Whangarei Milk in Schools Committee.
Letters were received from Dargaville asking if the committee could supply schools in this area with milk. Owing to the difficulty of transport, it was decided to suggest that Dargaville form its own milk in schools committee. If this were done Whangarei would offer every assistance.
