Intoxicated Motorist Sent To Gaol

When he pleaded guilty to intoxication while in charge of a motor truck, with having insufficient lights, and not having proper brakes, William Hector Mitchinson, 35, farmer, made a request through the City Missioner, the Rev. Jasper Calder, to be sent to prison, as even if he could raise the money to pay a fine it would fall on his wife and young children.
Mr Calder said accused said he had been living in a little shack in the back country, and doing well until he tool: some liquor yesterday. It was unfortunate that alcoholic trouble kept recurring, but ho was sincerely penitent.
The police said a traffic officer saw Mitchinson at G. 20 p.m. driving an erratic course, although on the correct side, and he narrowly escaped a collision with another car. Mr C. Pi. Orr-Walker, S.M.. said he would have sent accused to prison even without the request. Tie was sentenced to two weeks’ imprisonment. and his license was cancelled for three years.
On Ihe two lessor charges he was convicted and discharged.
