Soapmakers’ Retaliation

English soap manufacturers are retaliating" against the New Zealand Government import restrictions. One large English manufacturing firm has notified the Government that it is discontinuing further purchases of New Zealand tallow until the position is rectified.

The firm, under the import regulations, has had its exports of toilet soap to New Zealand cut by 50 per cent.

In another instance, a large English manufacturer of toilet soap and other toilet preparations was prepared to .allow the purchase money for sales to remain in New Zealand for a substantial period under the arrangement announced by the Government.

Its~ offer to trade up to the full quantities without drawing on sterling funds, made through its Auckland .agents, has been refused by the Government.
