King’s Birthday Tourney
Hockey
Endeavours are being made to bring a fourth ground into use for the King’s Birthday hockey tournament at Kensington Park on Monday next. The three grounds used last year have been cut and are in perfect condition for hockey, and it is expected that the fourth ground Avill be in a Satisfactory condition. Authority was given the secretary, to have new goals made for this ground. It Avas reported to the executive that the tournament committee has all arrangements in hand for the June 5 tourney. Whilst the newly formed Hikurangi boys’ team requested that it should not play in Whangarei tomorrow because of having to travel to Whangarei for a friendly game last week-end, the association could not alter the fixture. Instead, it was decided to pay Hikurangi boys’ travelling expenses to the June 5 tournament.
No nomination fee will be charged boys’ teams or ladies’ C grade teams competing in Ihe King’s Birthday fixture.
It was also decided that all games in the King’s Birthday series should commence at 9.30 a.m. Previously it had been planned that country teams should commence play at 10.30 a.m., but. with so many teams competing, it Avas found that the programme could not be completed in the one day if such a late start were made.
Any team may make up its side for June 5 with surplus players from other teams, provided these players have not played for any other team on that day. All protests for the June 5 tourney must be accompanied by a fee of 5/and must be lodged Avithin 30 minutes from the end of the game.
