Kupe Club Helps Cancer Fund
The Empire drive for Cancer Research Funds was missed in Hikurangi owing to officials of the Town Board being out of town when notices and badge supplies arrived through the post. They returned too late to set in motion any organisation that could handle the campaign on the appoint-
ed day. Always keen to assist a good cause, Hikumngi immediately took stej>s to rectify matters.
Ladies in charge of the Hikurangi branch of the Kupe Club were approached and it was agreed that members of the club should endbavour to sell the Cancer Campaign badges and arrange for a collection during the week. This has been done and, although it is understood the drive was well supported, final figures are not yet obtainable.
Boxing.—ln a 1 professional welterweight boxing match on Wednesday night between Les Adams (Ashburton), lOst. Gibs., and Dick Baker (Invercargill). lOst. 21bs.. Baker won on points. It was a good exhibition of skill.
