Won Like a Champion
Helipolis shot out at the start, but was soon overtaken by Larchfield, who led to the mile post, where Fox Cub, Hypnotist and Casanova were moving up. Blue Peter then made a great effort, and took charge at Tatlenham Corner. He was well clear at the distance and, stalling off Fox Cub’s run, won like a champion by four lengths. The winner is owned by Lord Rosebery. Fox Cub is owned by Mr E. Esmond, and Heliopolis by Lord Derby. Blue Peter became a firm favourite for the Derby after winning the Two Thousand Guineas, in which race he was not extended to dispose of the opposition. Blue Peter, a chestnut colt, is by the successful sire Fairway from Fancy Free. An Independent Cable Service message says that over 3000 people saw the Derby through television at West End cinemas.
