Derby Broadcast. At 6.45 this evening, the New Zealand National stations will re-broad-cast from London a running commentary on the English Derby. Not His Best. Siegmund’s displays since he won the Great Autumn Handicap have been much below expectations. He will be spelled for a few weeks. Worth Remembering.
Homily finished very fast in the McCrae Handicap at Manawatu to take fourth place, and may be worth keeping in mind next time he faces the starter.
Closing to Schedule.
The win-and-place system of betting will be used at Epsom on Saturday, and the first race will start at 11.30 a.m. The club intends to close the totalisator right to schedule time in every race. Great Northern Prospect. Charade came .through her race at Awapuni most satisfactorily. Her exhibition when winning last week-end was faultless, and her prospects in the Great Northern Hurdles are rated very highly. Short Respite. Valimeon and Hunter’s Rose are having a rest from track work for a few days. Valimeon is not engaged at , the Great Northern meeting at Elj lerslie, but may be taken to Tauranga to race on June 17. I Leading Horseman.
W. J. Broughton, the present leader in the jockeys’ premiership, scored two wins at Manawatu on Saturday. His mounts for the Foxton meeting next Saturday include Colonel Bogey, Footloose, Ruling Star, and Galteemore. J. Mclnally Injured. The injury received by J. Mclnally while schooling Airam at Te: Rapa on Friday, was more serious than was at first anticipated, and ho did not ride at the Waikato meeting. Mclnally was cut rather severely about the eye, which required several stitches. At His Best. Galteemore is now right at the top of his form, and with 8.7 in the Foxton Cup on Saturday he will have many friends. His end-to-end win in the Dig;' race at the Manawatu meeting was a very creditable performance, as ho stalled off a powerful finishing run by Entail.
Should be Well Seasoned
Two very creditable performances were recorded by En Tour, who ran a fourth and a second at the Tc Rapa mooting. En Tour has won over hurdles and country at Ellerslie, and with the racing he has been having lie should be well seasoned for the Great Northerns. He claims a dual engagement at Ellerslie, and he is a stayer who may have to be seriously reckoned with, especially in the Great Northern Steeplechase.
