Dismaying Crop Of Football Accidents

Frequency of accidents on the football field this season is causing concern to the Management Committee of the Whangarei Rugby Union and every effort is being made to reduce the incidence of accidents.

Every week-end players have been taken to hospital. Last Saturday two players went to the institution, and a number have had to retire through injury. concussion being one of the principal causes.

Fortunately the Union’s Insurance Fund is in ,a sound position so that all claims can be met and some of the claims for injuries this year will reach the maximum amount under the scheme.

Referees are being requested to do what is possible in an endeavour to reduce the liability to injury. Some of the trouble is attributable to sprigs and next Saturday an inspection of sprigs is to be carried out by referees, prior to the commencement of play.
