Frequent P. & T. Line Inspections

[Special to “Northern Advocate”] KAIKOHE, This Day.

The P. and T. Department’s main line from Ohaeawai to Okaihau is receiving its periodical inspection. Poles are being replaced in some sections, and new wires and insulators are being erected where necessary. The department now receives a much smalle? number of complaints from Northland line-users, simply because of the increased efficiency of the service.

During the depression the curtailing of the department’s expenditure was a necessity, and the lines naturally could not be given the attention which they required. At present, however, the various lines are regularly inspected, and very few poor connections are reported.

It seems that the authorities realise that the prosperous future of Northland depends largely on two wires—the telephone and electric power wires—and, as a result, anything which tends to bring about an improved telephone service for the north is readily agreed upon.
