Rain Makes Hokianga Reads Slippery
I Special to “Northern Advocate ”] RAWENE, This Day. Sparsely metalled roads in the Hokianga district have not been improved by rain which fell throughout the middle north early this week. Among the worst sections of roads Utukura Hill appeared to be the most dangerous. Some of the sharp bends on this hill were entirely without metal on the surface, with the result that cars skidded in all directions and the steep grades had to be negotiated with considerable care. A grader had been employed during the last few days on the UtukuraOkaihau road running from the top of the hill, and the rain made several sections of this road very slippery. An exceptionally thick fog was experienced in the vicinity of Lake Omapere, and motorists had to proceed with extreme caution.
Visibility was very poor, and it w,as impossible to see more than two chains ahead.
