Defence League Formed At Mangamnka Bridge ; A large and enthusiastic meeting was ! held in the Women’s Institute Hall, i Mangamuka Bridge, for the purpose of forming a branch of the Defence League. Mr W. H. Robinson occupied the chair, there being 60 people present. After the visiting speakers, Messrs. C. Cameron, P. Maxwell and W. White, had explained the objects of the De- • fence League and its urgency, and Mi’ V. Cauty had given reasons for the necessity of longer training from a military standpoint, a motion that a branch of the League be formed at Mangamuka Bridge was carried unanimously. Officers were appointed as Mr V. Cauty (president), Mr A; Creighton (hon. secretary). Messrs. J. Shapland, M. Crallan. M. Templeton, C. Templeton, W. H. Robinson (committee). At the close of the meeting, Mr J. Creighton proposed that those present pledge themselves to offer their set-’ vices in whatever capacity the# were best suited to the Government, should need arise for home defence. The motion was carried unanimously. Votes of thanks to the visiting speakers, and the chairman, also to the ladies for supper, concluded the meeting. iif i I
