Citrus Industry At Kerikeri
The Kerikeri citrus factory is now the scene of great activity, as the season’s crop of lemons is being received in an ever increasing quantity. In addition to this, alterations in the shed itself are being rushed through, in order to cope with the incoming fruit. These alterations are necessary, as the Government’s methods of grading, washing, and curing differ considerably from those hitherto in use. Although the standard of grading is substantially the same, it is now determined on reception of the fruit, and not after the curing process, aS formerly. The Government has decided that all fruit must be washed before being marketed, and to this end have installed a washing machine in place cf the original unit, which has been sent to Taiiranga. To help the shed staff in accustoming themselves to the new method of grading, and expert grader, Miss P. has been sent up from Auckland for a-short period. Miss'Humphrys is greatly impressed with the Kerikeri shed, ahd describes it as one of the best of its type that she has seen, being airy, clean and spacious.
