Northern Wairoa

Three schemes were submitted by the Dargaville-Hobson District (SubZone AG), two of these being approved of and the third withdrawn. Dargaville’s accepted proposals were. — (a) The acquisition of an area of 11 acres, adjacent to the municipal buildings, for a children’s playing area and the erection in brick of an up-to-date ladies’ rest room. Estimated cost, £1450, (b) Fencing, reading and shelter belt planting of ten acres of native bush on the Turiwiri Road, and the erection within the reserve of a pavilion and campers’ cookhouse. Estimated cost, £325. A scheme for establishing at the High School a section of books on New Zealand, a gallery of pictures of New Zealand scenes, and a section for native shrubs and trees, costing £25, was withdrawn, the joint permanent secretaries explaining that this was a matter that could normally be undertaken by the controlling authorities of the school without incurring undue hardship.
