Injured By Bull.—Head injuries from flying timber were suffered by Mr George Weaver, of Omahu Road, Hastings, when an enraged bull charged a gate on his property on Saturday morning. The injured man was taken to the Memorial Hospital, Hastings, where his condition is reported to be not serious.

Prisoner Escapes.— A prisoner, Thomas John Henry Foote, walked out of the yard at the Dunedin Central Police station at about 3 o’clock on Saturday afternoon. Foote was engaged at the time on cleaning-up duties, and his gaoler left him for a few minutes. When the gaoler returned Foote had departed. The escaped man was sentenced to five months’ imprisonment on Friday on various charges of theft.

Farmer Shot.—With a gunshot wound in his chest, a Rapanui farmer, Mr David James Phillips, aged 54, was found dead in a paddock on his farm yesterday afternoon, says a message from Wanganui. Informing his wife that he was going for a walk, Mr Phillips left the house carrying a shotgun. Shortly after, Mrs Phillips heard a shot and discovered her husband lying dead beside a fence, in which the gun had become caught. *#* * * Scalp Burned.—As the result of an accident in an Auckland toilet salon on Saturday morning, a widow, Mrs Mary Christina Keaney, aged 62, suffered severe burns to her scalp. She was admitted to the Auckland Hospital, and her condition last night was reported to be fairly serious.

More Industries.—lndustrial development mentioned in a statement by the Minister of Industries and Commerce, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, include the intention of an Australian firm to establish in New Zealand a carpet subsidiary, using all New Zealand wool. A factory is to be established at Auckland for making steel wheelbarrows, and a firm is undertaking the manufacture of bakers’ machine equipment. Other activities cover shoos, furs and various items of wearing apparel.

Motorist Killed.—Humphrey Frederick Erosnaban, 29, was killed when a car in which he was returning from a football match ran into a car pulled up at the roadside.

Seriously Hurt.—The driver of a taxi, R. Waddington, was very seriously injured when his car left the road and bounded down a 100 feet bank between Rotorua and Taupo on Saturday.
