The Reserve Bank return, showing i the position at the close of business on Monday, May 8, was gazetted last night. The statement is balanced at £31,133,348, or £368,264 less than at the close of the previous week. The sterling exchange reserve at £4,708,706 is £109,286 lower in value than a week before. Demand liabilities generally arc lower. The note issue is down by £18,900, and the deposits of the trading banks are £325,605 less than the week before. The proportion of reserve to these liabilities is slightly higher at 25.722 per cent. Advances to the Primary Produce Marfketing Department have fallen by £41,376, but those for other purposes have increased by £IOO,OOO to £12,175,000.
