“it will not he creditable to the county it the people [ail to raise the necessary funds to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the country,” commented the chairman of the Whangaroi County Council, Mr J. A. S. Mac Kay, at the council’s monthly meeting today. "I feci sure ratepayers will do -everything to help the organiser,” continued Mr Mac Kay. “However, we have found that numbers of people are still unaware of what they must do to assist the scheme. Only by having meetings in the various districts can this information bo given to all.” Mr K. Hayr, Northland Centennial erga; riser. was present r.t the meeting and appealed to councillors for their co-operation. It was Mr Hayr’s desire to have meetings called in the various ridings so that he could discuss Centennial matters with the settlers.
Expenses incurred in convening meetings would be met cut of Queen Carnival funds, he said.
