New Organiser For Queen Carnival

Complete reorganisation oi the Whnngarei Sub-zone 5 Centennial Queen Carnival has taken place. Addressing county councillors at today’s meeting of the Whangaroi County Council, Mr K. Hayr. Northland Centennial organiser, explained that a Queen Carnival organiser had been appointed by the district finance committee. After “hanging fire" for two months, said Mr Hayr, the organiser’s services had been dispensed with, and he (Mr Hayr) had been appointed to the position. Mr Hayr would have a free hand in organising the carnival.

War Casualty Possibilities

WASHINGTON. May 11. Lieutenant-Colonel A. C. Love, of the American Army Officers’ Organisation, addressing the International Conference on Military Medicine and Pharmacy, said the American Army recommended that provision be made for 150 casualties daily among each 1000 infantrymen engaged in the next war. It was computed that there were be 24 deaths for 1000, that 90 would suffer gunshot wounds, and 30 would be gassed. These figures were based on close studies of war casualty probabilities.
