Mr. Savage To Broadcast Defence Appeal
rPer Press Association. Copyright .] WELLINGTON, This Day. Further consideration was given to tire question of defence at the caucus of the members of the Parliamentary Labour Party, which concluded yesterday afternoon after meeting over two days.
The Prime Minister. Mr Savage, said last night that the discussions on defence had occupied the greater part of Wednesday and practically all of yesterday. The discussions, said Mr Savage, had boon highly interesting. What the members of the caucus had been mainly concerned with was the land defence forces. They were enthusiastic about the Government’s activities to speed up and strengthen the land forces.
All agreed that it was desirable that he should speak on the subject of defence as soon as possible, leaving the details until the Government had received the report of Major-General P. J. Mackcsy on the land forces. Certainly no harm could be done, but quite a lot of good, from broadcasts giving a general outline of the defence policy of the Government.
