Cycle Racing Club’s New Lease Of Life

A new lease of life is anticipated by the Whangarei Cycle Racing Club.

The club has not functioned since last September, but at a meeting last night renewed enthusiasm was shown and activities are to be recommenced immediately. There was a fair attendance of riders, presided over by Mr A. Snow. It was suggested that the former club should go into recess and the organisation is to start off on a new footing.

"It is up to the riders themselves to bring new competitors along and make a success of the races,” said Mr Slade Clark. "Lack of response cannot be blamed on the officials,” said Mr W. Green, ‘fit is the responsibility of the competitors.” The motion to reconstitute the club was carried on the motion of Mr Clark. Officers Elected, The new list of officers is as follows: President, Mr A. Snow; secretary, Mr Bert McKenzie; treasurer, Mr K. Wright; handicapper, Mr Slade Clark; committee, Messrs A. T. Young, Bruce McKenzie, W. Green. J. Byers, C. Bradley, J. Young, W. Buckley and L. Byers, with power to add. Road Race Programme. It was agreed to enter upon a programme of road races for the winter. The first race is to be held on Saturday. May 20, from Whangarei to Hikurangi and return. The record race on May 27 will be from Whangarei beyond the Kauri overbridge, returning via the old highway and rejoining the main road on the southern side of the bridge to return to Whangarei. On June 3 the course will again be to Hikurangi and return, while on the following Saturday, June 10, the race will be from Whangarei to Kamo and return twice, finishing with three laps on the Nixon Street course All races are to commence at 2 p.m. Special Race. It was agreed that a special race for new riders this season should bo held within the next few weeks, a special medal having been donated for this event. ■ Entrance fee for each race was fixed at 1 '6 per rider. It was announced that the winner o£ the Walker Cup for the most improved rider in 1938 season was B, McKenzie.

The chib membership fee was fixed al 2-6.
