Successful Play By Matakohe School Pupils

Tlie teachers and parents of the children of the Matalcohe School deserve every credit for the success of

the play Princess Chrysanthemum performed by the children in the Matakche Hall. The hall was filled with an enthusiastic and delighted audience. Nearly every child in the school took part and the .acting and singing were a credit to the head teacher, Mr G. Broomfield, and the assistant teachers, Mesdames A. Metcalfe and G. Wills and Miss Millett, who must all have felt gratified at the results of their labours ever a period of several months. The parents were responsible for the beautiful and effective Eastern costumes v/orn by the performers, and as a committee Mesdames G. Peake, J. Williams. G. Broomfield and C. Edmondson carried out most of the preliminary work. Messrs D. Ball, C. Edmondson, P. Williams and D. Peake also assisted greatly with the stage decorations and scenery. Excellent coloured lighting effects for the different scenes were in the hands of Mr J. Patterson. Printed and coloured programmes were supplied for the evening by Miss G. Hutchin- j son and Mr J. Sterling. Miss Millett, j the assistant teacher, played the piano accompaniments throughout the play.;

When thanking the parents and helpers for the splendid co-operation which had enabled the school children to make a success of a lengthy play. Mr Broomfield especially thanked Mr C. Ball who had loaned the school his piano for three months for use during rehearsals. The acting and singing of the children throughout was splendid, all performers filling well their individual parts, and helping towards a real success and pleasure to the audience.
