Maungaturoto

Mr C. A. Lindsay's delightful garden proved as popular as ever when a garden party was held in aid of the Blue Queen (Wairau Riding). Due to the untiring efforts of Mr Lindsay and members of the committee the afternoon was a distinct success. The weather was perfect and outdoor games proved popular. The cake and produce stall was attended by Mrs Mincher and Mrs Civil and Miss Grigg officiated at the ice cream and sweets stall. Mr Bert Watts was in charge of clock golf; Mr M. Smith, quoits, and Mr Edgar Cullen, target shooting. Winners of competitions were as follows: Clock golf, Miss D. Fergusson; men, Mr B. Watts; quoits, Mrs H. Sliding and Mr Lindsay; target shooting, Mrs. J. Massey and Mr. L. R. Civil; cork fishing, Mr W. Griffen. A box of chocolates was won by Mr. Cairns. An enjoyable afternoon lea was served and at the close Mr Arnold Cullen on behalf of the queen carnival committee thanked Mr Lindsay for his kindness in lending his garden. Gifts, for Crippled Children

Great interest was shown in a num-, ber of beautiful dolls dressed by members of Women's Institutes in surrounding districts. They were received in response to a competition arranged by Mr Lindsay. 34 entries being on show at the garden party. Mr Lindsay donated a prize to the winner of each group. Mr Lindsay, accompanied by his I niece and Mr Elliot Brown and Miss Brown, of the Hakaru Institute, preI sented the dolls to the children of the j Wilson Home for crippled children, on | Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Twigden I (Auckland) having made previous arrangements for the presentation. I Each girl received a doll and the boys received comic papers, which had been collected by the Maungaturoto , Bank of New Zealand staff. Those who had spent many hours of work dressing the dolls, would have been fully rewarded if they had • seen the pleasure of the children in receiving the gifts.
