Ararua
To aid the funds of" the Matakohe representative in the Otamatea Centennial Queen Carnival, the weekly evening held in the Ararua Kail was well attended. The ladies' first prize at euchre was won by Mrs Jones with 13 games. Messrs D. Fenwick and G. Burdett, each with 11J games, tied for the men's first prize, the former winning the play-off. The ladies' consolation prize was won by Miss L. Parker after a tie with Miss G. Smith, and Mr E. Morris won the men's consolation prize after a tie with Messrs J. Sterling and C. Cleal. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss O. Richardson and Mr M. Leaf, and a competition was won by Mr J. Sterling. Farewell Afternoon. Children of the Ararua School, members of the Ararua Basketball Club and parents met at the hall to farewell Miss R. O. Richardson, who, after two and a half years as assistant teacher at the local school, has resigned to take up a position at the Pukekohe School. Numerous gifts from her fellow basketball players and the parents, and a beautiful silver cakestand suitably inscribed from the pupils of the school, showed the esteem with which Miss Richardson has been held during her term in Ararua.
