British Battleships Earmarked for N.Z.Australian Defence
(Received 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, May 10. HECTOR BYWATER, “DAILY TELEGRAPH” NAVAL CORRESPONDENT, UNDERSTANDS THAT AS THE RESULT CF NEGOTIATIONS BETWEEN BRITAIN, AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND, BRITISH BATTLESHIPS ARE EARMARKED FOR PACIFIC SERVICE IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY. The number and names of the ships are not disclosed, but the composition will be calculated in view of the balance of power in the eastern Atlantic and the Mediterranean. Well-informed naval authorities believe that any threat to New Zealand and Australian territory has practically disappeared.
