Kaitaia

Mr H. McDonald, manager of the Kaitaia branch of the Bank of New Zealand, has returned to Kaitaia after an absence of several weeks spent in Canterbury. While away he was married to Miss Smith, a former resident of Kaitaia. who accompanied him back to Kaitaia.

Mr Eric Hansen has been appointed

secretary of the Kaitala branch of the / Farmers’ Union, and to his inability to attend day 1 meetings it was decided by the union to hold ■future meetings in the evening.

Mr. W. Bruce, a member of the Post and: Telegraph staff, before leaving Kaitaia on transfer, was given a sendoff by representatives of the various Government departments and the ..county /council. Mr C. McKinnon, county clerk, spoke of the particularly •good work Mr Bruce had done in connection with the No. 5 scheme, in conjunction with Miss Coulter, assistant county clerk. Several other speakers praised the services of Mr Bruce, who was presented with a cheque. Mr Bruce, who has been In Kaitaia for six years, has not received notice of his future movements, but probably he will go to Auckland on holiday before recommencing duty. Other friends of Mr Bruce fareweljed him at a dance in the A. and P. hall.
