Gladly Could Have Jumped Over The Moon
Paparoa Railway. Dear Kupe, My word it is a long time since I wrote to you, isn’t it? Well, I have just finished some home work and to make matters worse it was arithmetic that I had been doing, so my head is full of figures. When I heard of your wonderful holiday idea I could have jumped over the moon (although I am no good at jumping). Paparoa is a terribly slow place, so don’t expect anything for a little while yet, Kupe. When we do get going though, we have decided to have a Paddy’s market. At' the school we have, pictures of our own (movies I mean) and we get two films a week from Auckland. When we have put them through we send the films back again. Mr Cole, our schoolmaster, thinks he might be able to run a picture evening. I hope you will be able to attend our little evenings, Kupe. How’s the S.P.? I hope he hasn’t caught diptheria, because in Maungaturoto there are three cases of it. Well. I must close now for I see it is bed time. Yours sincerely, ELSIE GRIFFEN. (I don’t know so much about Paparoa being a slow place, Elsie. Sounds as though you have some good schemes for raising holiday funds. Good luck to you, anyway.—Kupe).
