Secondary School Teachers In Conference
In the consideration of remits par- , ticular stress was laid on the need for* J increased library facilities, and for j some satisfactory method of appoint- j ment of secondary teachers. It was , felt that many of the larger district | high schools should be converted into | separate post-primary schools, with j intermediate schools consolidated from j the districts attached to them.
Films in Schools. The report of the Film Appreciation Committee was presented by Mr. L. B. j Quarterm'ain, who said the committee was gratified 1 to note the interest taken in its work by an increasing number of teachers and their evident desire to avail themselves of the committee’s help in moulding the film taste of their pupils. The majority of boys and girls had no really satisfactory guidance as to what films to see, and they were surprisingly keen to have some guidance. It was worthwhile just to introduce j them to first rate films, just as it was .worth while to introduce them to first rate books. It was decided that the next annual meeting be held in Christchurch.
