Kaitaia Farmers Appalled At Speed

1 Special to “Northern Advocate ”] KAITAIA. This Day. “It is true this union took some interest in the speed of motor vehicles.” said Mr T. S. Houston, at the meeting of the Kaitaia branch of the Farmers' Union.

Under what were supposed to be up-to-date restrictions they were getting more accidents than ever before and one of the main causes was speed, said Mr Houston. The statement that the number of accidents in New Zealand was by a proper standard of comparison the lowest in the world could not be borne out by facts. Mr Semple was doing what ho could but more was needed by local bodies.

A firm was mentioned by one speaker who placed the responsibility on its truck drivers of delivering a certain number of loads daily and this could not be done without breaches of the speed regulations. A deputation consisting of Messrs Houston. Marsh and C. B. Michie was appointed to wait on the county council in connection with the matter,'
