L Special to “Northern Advocate ”J KERIKERI, This Day.
“We who have seen war are not out of our usefulness,” said Captain F. W. Voelcker, president of the Kerikeri branch of the R.S.A., at the annual branch reunion.
There w*as a good attendance and the function proved successful. “It is up to us to lead the young fellows,” the captain continued. “We answered the call once, and I am sure that should another emergency such as in 1914 occur, the diggers, especially in this district, would rally to the call.”
In proposing the toast to. the King, Captain Voelcker said that at the present time the King was doing something unheard of in history, which was visiting America. He wished His Majesty a pleasant trip, and God speed in the return to the country where he was so popular. There were only two other toasts, those of Absent Comrades, and the Army, Navy and Air Force, and the evening was devoted to community singing and impromptu items.
Mr P. Everett, a returned soldier from Gisborne, who is now residing ia Kerikeri, was welcomed.
