Northern Maoris Celebrate Triple Hui

[Special to “Northern Advocate ”] KOHUKOHU, This Day. The Maoris at Pawar'anga are having a good time. In the last week they have had three reasons for staging the everpopular hui, and as the result they are in the middle of 'a function which is likely to last for some time. Early last week a Maori woman died, and the tangi in connection with her burial had hardly commenced when a second woman died, and the tangi was continued with increased fervour. Then on Saturday a young Maori couple were married, and the combined hui, which had then been going for three days, was automatically turned into a triple function.

The length of the Maori hui is a well-known fact, so that when three huis are being staged at once it teems only right for the Maoris in the district to think of nothing but feasting, drinking 'and being merry for a considerable time.
