School Building Work Held Up
ISpecial to “Northern Advocate AUCKLAND, This Day.
Work on 36 school buildings and teachers’ residences in the Auckland Education Board district has been held up, pending authority from the Government to go ahead. Under a new arrangement, tenders must be submitted to the department before acceptance, and this approval is now awaited before the successful tenderers can be advised to go ahead with the work.
There were numerous instances of delays in permission to proceed with teachers’ houses, causing hardship in some cases. Among the centres where this has occurred are the following:— Kaipara (additions), Tinopai and Kaingaroa.
Among the new schools or additions which have been authorised, tenders called for, and final authority withheld by the department, are Wafpu Central (additions) and Whau Valley (additions).
