Whangarei Boys’ Theft Gang Broken Up
During the past few months a succession. of thefts has taken place in Whangarei, the culprits being three boys, two of them aged 15 years and one aged 16. Yesterday they were dealt with by Mr G. N. Morris, S.M., in the Children’s Court. It was revealed that none of the younger boys worked alone in their tactics, but that the elder one secured the co-operation of one of the other boys when committing a theft. f Must Be Separated. About £l4 worth of property was stolen altogether by the gang. '•‘When these gangs get started it is absolutely essential to break them up,” commented Mr Morris. He sent the elder boy to Borstal Institute for 12 months, and placed the younger boys under the care of the Child Welfare Officer. They will be denied the privilege of going out at night, or attending picture theatres, or similar shows.
Parents of the younger boys have undertaken to make good the value of the property stolen.
A message from Delhi states that nine persons were killed, 92 were, injured and 265 were arrested in communal rioting at Gaya.
