Mrs. Donaldson Resigns From Hospital Board
Mrs Viva Donaldson, who has been a member of the Whangarei Hospital Board for the past 10 years, tendered her resignation at yesterday’s meeting of the board.
Owing to her having taken a teaching appointment, Mrs Donaldson has found it impossible to attend board meetings.
Writing to the board yesterday, Mr? Donaldson paid a tribute to the manner in which the board was being administered and expressed regret that she was obliged to resign.
“Mrs Donaldson has taken an .activo part in all the activities of the board in the years she has been a member/’ commented the chairman, Mr J. A. S. M.acKay. “We should place on record our appreciation of Mrs Donaldson’s services,” remarked Mr F. Higginson. “She has never shirked her responsibilities and what she considered her duties.” Accepted With Regret, “She has been a useful member and we will be sorry that she has severed her connection with the board. ’ said Mr F. Elliott. “It is quite advisable to have a woman on the board, as she has an intimate knowledge of certain aspects of administering a hospital that men cannot secure.” “The hospital has gained a lot through Mrs Donaldson’s term on the board,” was the opinion of Mr H. L. Younger. Mr A. J. McKay thought that the board should not accept the resignation, but grant Mrs Donaldson leave of absence. Mrs Donaldson, however, considered it her duty to the hospital, under the circumstances, to resign. Her resignation was therefore accepted with regret and ,a recoid made of the board’s appreciation of her serI vices.
