Whangarei To Be “Attacked” Next Monday
With more than 450 men of the Composite Mounted Rifles to protect the town, Whangarei is to be attacked from the south on Monday next. That much is known.
From the Kensington Park Camp the troopers leave on Sunday next for a destination not yet disclosed. From the south, sweeping towards Whangarei—a strategic objective of no mean importance—the A Squadron of the 4th M.R. (Motorised), in the role of enemy, will rhake every effort to secure a victory. The Mounted Rifles, after bivouacing on Sunday night, expect to contact the enemy on Monday, when they will act as 'defenders of Whangarei. Detailed plans of the mock battle which appears to be one of the most spectacular manoeuvres of the annual camp which commenced on Saturday are not yet available.
