Kaitaia Motor Camp Improvement Scheme

\.Special to “Northern Advocate ” 3 KAITAIA, This Day. When the Kaitaia Businessmen’s Association was formed, one of the aims which received prominence was such improvements to the motor camp as would lift it into the A class with the Automobile Association, and since then some progress has been made towards this objective. Reporting at the regular meeting for the committee appointed to deal with the question, Mr R. Stewart gave an outline of what had been done up to the present. The committee had waited upon the A. and P. Association and had also conferred with the Health Department. Representative Committee. Provisional plans had been prepared providing for all that was required, including a social room, shower baths and a proper fireplace and conveniences. It was proposed that a motor camp committee be formed representing the businessmen’s association and the A. and P. association for running the camp. A separate account would be opened and the committee would handle all receipts and expenditure. The shower baths and other conveniences would be available to footballers during the winter season. The idea was to construct a room at the back of the present grandstand, about 15 feet by 30 feet. The committee was waiting now for a further meeting with the A. and P. association, when ft was expected everything would be finalised.

Liability of Association. The chairman, Mr Horsley, said the proposal was to lease the grounds from the A. and P. association, and both bodies would eventually be recompensed for initial expenditure. Mr Houston said he would like to have something definite with regard to the liability of the association for expenditure in the camp. Members did not want to leave their funds in a depleted state. Mr Stewart said no definite information could be given as yet, but before an agreement was concluded the whole matter would be brought before a general meeting.
