Better Tons On ’Change

A sharp rise of 1/- was recorded by Farmers’ Trading ordinary shares at the first call of the Auckland Stock Exchange today, after which buyers moved up to 18/9, and sellers came in at 19/6. r Australian Consolidated Industries and a number of other trading and industrial issues also gained strength, the most prominent being Broken Hill Ptys, quoted from £3/3/9 to £3/4/6, Electrolytic Zincs from £2/9/- to £2/9/6, and Woolworths (New Zealand) from 18/- to'lß/9. Breweries were firm, also coal and gas shares. For Auckland Gas buyers came'in at 16/10, a Id higher than yesterday’s sale price, while sellers asked 17/6. Banks were steady. There was a further advance of about 5/for most issues of Government bonds and stocks, but holders still failed to show interest.
Sales completed at the noon call today were: Bank of New Zealand, £l/9/7; ‘Dominion Breweries, £1 12/6; Broken Hill con., £2/18/6; Broken Hill South, £l/8/9; Rural Bonds 15/9/47, 4 per cent., £9B/5/-; Auckland Transport Board, 1/4/43, 4>{per cent., £99.
