Kaitaia Carnival Realises Good Credit
[Special ro "Northern Advocate " 3 KAITAIA, This Day. A statement showing the financial position in connection with the recent Kaitaia carnival week was placed before the businessmen’s association by the secretary, Mr L. G. Thompson.
The receipts totalled £213 8/- and the expenditure £149 19/5, leaving a profit of £63 9/2. Other items of income Were: Donation of surplus by the Christmas shopping committee, 18/6; gift from retailers’ association, £2 2/3; members’ subscriptions, £26 10/-, These items brought the total funds in hand to £92 19/11, and of this £BB 12/2 was in the bank.
The statement, Mr Thompson said, was not quite complete, but it was within £1 of being correct.
Mr Thompson suggested that about £4O be placed in the Post Office Savings Bank as a reserve fund in the name of two trustees, and that no part of this amount be withdrawn without a resolution by a general meeting. After some discussion, in which Mr R, Stewart mentioned the association s financial responsibility with regard to the motor camp, it was decided to deposit £75 in the savings bank under the conditions mentioned by the secretary, and the chairman and secretary were appointed trustees.
Dargaville’s Carnival
[Special to “Northern Advocate ”] DARGAVILLE, This Day. • Large crowds thronged the streecs •yesterday for the opening of Dargaville’s third annual carnival, which will be continued until Saturday. The town is gay with coloured lights and bunting. The opening ceremony was performed by the Mayor, Mr R. Gibson. Children’s sports were held on the foreshore reserve, and, a balloon hunt was also conducted. /
