Remembering The Nova Scotians

Efforts are being made to have as descendants of the original Nova Scotian settlers as possible present at a meeting to be held in May for discussion on matters pertaining to a suitable manner of commemorating the historic landings. At last night’s meeting of the Whangarei Centennial Commitee, Mr K. Hayr, organiser, said that Waipu was not the only place at which the Nova Scotians settled, and that it was desired to have descendants from all areas represented. For this reason it had been suggested that advertisements be placed in local as well as outside newspapers drawing the attention of descendants to the proposed meeting. Although those living at a distance could not attend, he said, they would have an opportunity of submit-ting-suggestions for a suitable commemoration.

On the motion of Mr J. A. S, MacKay, it was decided to insert advertisements to this effect in Whangarei, Auckland and Wellington papers.
