Bay County’s Satisfactory Finances
Increased rale collections were reported by the treasurer of the Bay of Islands County Council. Mr J. L. Rayner, at the county's annual meeting.
Total rates struck, excluding native, amounted to £15.390 (last year. £14,788) and current rates collected totalled £13,416 (.£12,309). Current rates unpaid at March 31 were £2113 this year and £2479 last year. Arrears of rates collected during the year were £2878 (£2967). Position Analysed. Details of the amount of European rates collectable and collected for the various ridings and town board areas are. — Kawakawa Town Board, £2Ol collectable. £194 collected, 96.5 per cent, 85 per cent last year; Kawakawa Riding, £1536 collectable, £I3OO collected, 84.6 per cent, 81 per cent last year; Kerikeri Riding, £1955 collectable. £1658 collected, 84.8 per cent, 85 per cent last year; Matar.aua Riding, £1972 collectable, £1682 collected, 85.3 per cent, 77 per cent last year; Okaihau Riding, £1605 collectable, £1348 collected, 84 per cent, 86 per cent last year; Pakaraka Riding, £1691 collectable, £1569 collected, 92.7 per cent, 89 per cent last year; Russell Town, £2Bll collectable, £243 collected, 86 per cent, 85 per cent last year; Russell Riding, £lll7 collectable, £9Bl collected, 87.8 per cent, 77 per cent last year; Tautoro Riding, £1591 collectable, £1243 collected, 79.3 per cent, 86 per cent last year; Towai Riding. £1924 collectable, £1746 collected, 90.7 per cent, 77 per cent last year; Waimate Riding, £1513 collectable. £1412 collected, 93.3 per cent. 89 per cent last year. Totals, £ 15,390 collectable, £13,377 collected. Current rates collected over the whole county totalled 87 per cent (83 per cent last year). Receipts from all sources were £39,494 (£39,419), expenditure, £41,572 (£38,224), highways expenditure, £8166 (£5194), highways board payments, £5792 (£4063). License fees showed a general in-' crease as follows: General licenses, 75 (78); taxi licenses, 47 (42); motor drivers’ licenses, 320 • (296); dog licenss, 285 (179); heavy traffic licenses, 1555 (1330); t0ta1,.2282 (1925).
Russell Mr Leon Warne, of Matawhi, is on a short business visit to Sydney. Mr and Mrs George Warne, of Matawhi, are visiting relatives in Auckland. Miss Kathleen Williams, who is nursing at Kawakawa hospital, is visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs J. B. Williams, The Strand. Mr W. H. Macpherson, of Portsmouth, England, who has been residing in Russell for the past six months, has left on a month’s visit to Auckland, Rotorua. and surrounding tourist resorts prior to sailing for England. Mr Macpherson intends returning to Russell again towards the end of this year. Mrs Leslie Blomfield and new baby daughter are back.
