A Musical Treat

Mrs A. R. Menzics and Miss Himmel acted as hostesses for the Whangarei University Women’s Club on April 12. The meeting was held at Mrs Menzios’ home in Hatca Street.

An interesting talk on absolute and descriptive music was given by Miss Rowlinson, assisted by Miss Wernham. In illustration of her talk, Miss Rowlinson played Alcestis (Gluck), L’Alouetto (Lincoln), and other compositions at the request of the listeners. Miss Wernham played Legonde. Funeral March (Grieg) and Beethoven’s famous Moonlight Sonata. At the conclusion of the evening, the president, Miss Kidson, convoyed the thanks of the club for the delightful entertainment.
