West Coast Farmers’ Visit To, Whangarei
In the course of a Northland tour, 90 farmers and their wives from the West Coast of thd South Island will arrive in Whangarei by the AucklandCpua express at 2.15 p.m. on Friday, June 9. Advice to this effect has been received by the Whangarei Borough Council from the District Traffic Manager, New Zealand Railways, who also gives details of the itinerary at Whangarei. On the afternoon of their arrival, the visitors will be taken in buses and private cars to Wilson's (N.Z.) Portland Cement Works, returning to their hotels at 5 p.m. On Friday evening, an entertainment, probably taking the form of a ' conversazione, will be held in the j Town Hall. 1
Sightseeing Tour
Leaving at 9 a.m. on Saturday. June 10, the visitors will make a sightseeing tour of Whangarei and its environs, including calls at Kamo, the Mineral Springs, Whangarei Falls, Maungatapere, and, if time permits, /the Wairua Falls.
Returning for lunch, the party will board the Opua express at 2.25 for Russell, where the week-end will be spent. Mr A. Briscoe Moore, president of the Whangarei Sub-Provincial branch of the Farmers’ Union, has been advised of the itinerary, and requested to convene a meeting of local bodies with a view to providing suitable entertainment for the West Coast farmers on the evening of June 9, and also assisting in the transport arrangements.
When in Whangarei last week, Mr Wallace, who made the preliminary arrangements for the tour, was assured by the Mayor, Mr W. Jones, of his fullest co-operation towards ing the stay of the visitors a happy and profitable one.
