Efficiency Of Bay Hospital

In comparsion with ether boards of the same grading throughout New Zealand, the affairs of the Bay of Islands Hospital Board are being handled very satisfactorily. This was revealed at the last meeting of the board at Kawakawa. Comparison of the cost per occupied bed per annum of some boards, revealed the position as follows: Class 4 hospitals, Bay of Islands £203, Mangonui £245.7 and Hokianga £304.4. The average for this class is £212. Class 1 hospitals: Auckland £259 and Wellington £212, the average for class 1 being £253. The annual maintenance cost per head of population in a number of the districts were: Auckland £1 6/10jL North Canterbury £1 4/6; Wellington £1 8/5; Bay of Islands 15/6; Whangarei £1 4/1; Mangonui £1 1/9; Hokianga £1 2/2; Whangaroa £1 5/11. The amount of fees received per occupied bed; Bay of Islands £B6 2/-, Mangonui £B4, and Hokianga £BO, the average for class 4 hospitals being £7l. The chairman, Mr H. T. Atkinson, stated that these figures were taken from the official report issued by the Government, and it reflected much credit on the medical superintendent, the secretary and staff, that the Bay of Islands Hospital occupied such a high position, it being among the most efficient boards in the Dominion.
