(Received 12.30 p.m.) RUGBY. April 19

Ti ic President of the Board of Trade, Mr Oliver Stanley, in the House of Commons, said that while it was still too early to draw definite conclusions regarding the effects of the BritishAi’K rican trade agreement, there were already signs of a considerable expansion of British exports to the United Stales. The increase in the first two months of this year, as compared wifft the same period in 1938. exceeded £1.000,000. In reply to a suggestion for the introduction of a barter or compensation system in British-Argentine trade, Mr Stanley said he did not consider such a scheme necessary or desirable. He recalled that under Hie existing trade agreement the Argentine Government made available sterling exchange for the purpose of remittances to Britain up to the value of the Argentine’s exports to Britain.
