Decision was reserved by the Court of Arbitration today in the application for a Dominion award to cover builders and general labourers. The hearing occupied the greater part of three days, at Wellington, 12 witnesses being called for the workers and seven for the employers.
As a result of frequent complaints made by the Rotorua Borough Council regarding the danger of accidents at the level crossing at Ranolf Avenue, adjacent to the Rotorua railway station, the Railways Department has agreed to appoint an additional porter to the staff of the station,,and this officer will act as a crossing-keeper for the purpose of warning traffic of the approach of trains at the crossing.
An inquest was held this afternoon by Mr F. K. Hunt, coroner, on the human leg which was found near the water’s edge at Arroa Bay, Waiheke Island, on March 14, by Mr C. M. Higgins, of Frankton Junction, who, while walking along the beach, noticed the leg near the water’s edge. The inquest today was conducted for the police by Sergeant Corston. The coroner returned a verdict that tjie limb was portion of the body of Basil Rabe, whose death was caused by accidental drowning.
