Yesterday’s strong demand for Australian industrials was maintained on the Auckland Stock Exchange this morning,' X several issues showing further slight improvement. General business was very quiet. Weakness in gas shares was one of the main features of the first call. Wellington Gas sold at £1 9/9, showing la drop of 1/3 since last sale in February, while Auckland Gas contributing shares, after business late yesterday at the record low. point of 10/6, had quotations round that level. The fully paids were unchanged between 16/ and 17/3. Australian and Consolidated Industries had a better market between £1 9/6 and £1 113/, and British Tobaccos, Broken Hill (Proprietary and Electro Zincs, were fully firm on yesterday’s improvement. A firm tone in local industrials was reflected in quotations for Wilsons Cements between 15/7 and 15/10; Taranaki Oils between 8/7 and 9/3; Reidrubber, with buyers -at £1 4/0 and no sellers.

Among Government stocks the recently converted 4 per cent. 1940-42 issues sold at 2/6 above yesterday’s price, but 1952-55’s had weaker sell-
