Y.W.C.A. Clubs And Classes
A notice appears elsewhere giving details of the various clubs and classes -that are being arranged for the coming months. Play reading has always been popular with club members, and plans are being made to produce a play for the Drama Festival sponsored by the Women’s Institutes. A rehearsal was held this week by the Lyceum members, who propose holding an open night on Thursday of next week. The programme will include play readings, games, and a travel talk by Miss Bennett, who has lately returned from a trip through Canada and the United States. The first meeting of the life saving class met on Wednesday of this week in the school baths. A practical demonstration of the various strokes I used in lifesaving was given, after ' which members practised distance j swimming. I The gym classes, which are held in j the St. John Ambulance hall, will net j start till after Easter. Miss Bennett | hopes to extend the gym classes to include fencing, folk dancing and a j matron’s class. There are still vacan-1 cies in a basketball team and in a j hockey team, and intending players | are asked to get in touch with the j secretary. A camp for seniors will be i held during the Easter holidays, and j one for the citizens during the May . holidays. 1
Citizens held their opening party on Friday of this week. The programme which had been arranged by the girls themselves consisted of games, singing and stunts. Part of the evening was spent planning the dramatisation of well-known folk tales, which will be given at some future date.
A membership gathering will be held on the 27th of this month, when opportunity will be taken to meet Miss Ethel Law. National Secretary of the Y.W.C.A. of New Zealand, who will be making her annual visit to Whangarei.
