Scrub Fire Threatens Wairakei Hotel

TAUPO, This Day. The scrub fire on the Taupo-Auck-land main highway, which lias been burning since last Saturday, has again jumped the road, and is burning fiercely on both the Wairakei side and the left-hand side of the road, at a point about three miles from the Wairakei Hotel.

A light breeze from the north-west carried the fire slowly in the direction of Wairakei. Unless the wind increases, the fire will take some time to reach the hotel, which is surrounded by a large clump of closely-growing pine trees. Should the fire reach this point, it would be impossible to save the hotel, and the whole position depends entirely on the direction of the wind.
