Wellington T.C. Acceptances

The fields for the first day of the Wellington Trotting Club’s meeting, which opens to-morrow, are well up to standard, and bring together the best of the available talent in the improving classes. Representatives of the . north, and south are due to clash in practically all events, and first-class racing should bo pi’ovided.

The Chief Event.

The chief item bn to-morrow’s programme is the Metropolitan Handicap, a mile and a-half trotting event. Included in the field is practically the best material in this particular class in the Dominion, and the event should, be productive of an abundance of thrills. Those in search of the winner may be satisfied with Golden Eagle, who will probably be driven by D. C. Watts. Of the horses oh the limit,,the chances of Timworthy look the best, if he is not reserved for a looser class. Mute has been performing well from back marks and he is a solid trotter who is equal to accounting for the better-fancied candidates. He is in great order at present. Franz Derby is a proved trotter on the course, and she should lack nothing on the score of condition. She can be relied upon to do her work correctly from barrier to judge. Helen’s Bay and Aristotle are useful propositions, but •it is possible that Aristotle would be seen to better advantage over two miles, as he takes a good deal of time to pick up speed. Guy Hugo has a recent victory at New Brighton to recommend him, and it is worthy of note that the southern track is grass, the same as at Hutt Park. The back-marker is Wahnooka, and it is doubtful if there are many better square-gaiters in the Dominion than this fellow. As in the case of practically all good horses, he is on a mark from which his chances are restricted, but he is sure to give a good performance.

The elect of the backers is likely to be Golden Eagle, but strong opposition may be coming from Guy Hugo and Wahnooka.
