Dominion Ships For British Aid
[lndependent Cable Service .] (Received 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, February 27. Lord Craignyle, shipping director, in a speech at Galashiels, said that Britain is short by 2000 of useful types essential to carry food and munitions in an emergency. The Government argued that a decrease in British tonnage was compensated by increased Dominion and colonial tonnage. “We are left to draw the conclusion that Dominion shipping is available to Britain in time of emergency.” It is a public duty to investigate this argument, and ascertain what proportion of such ships is suitable and can be spared for home defence duties.”
